"Plaster study models are standard storage of patient data in 3D format. With the development of digital technologies is also developed ways of digital data to create a physical object - 3D print. The aim of this study were: (1) to compare the accuracy of linear measurements on plaster study models and 3D reconstructed copies, (2) evaluate new opportunities, advantages and disadvantages of using 3D printing when used in dentistry and (3) determine the extent to which 3D printed models replace the traditional models. Ten plaster study models Department of Orthodontics Dental Clinic for Children and Adults 2nd Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Motol been scanned and digital data are used for open source 3D printer RepRap. On models of printers measurements were made of the same distance in planes x, y and z, as in the traditional plaster models. The data were statistically evaluated. 3D printing is a suitable method to convert digital data into physical form. 3D replicas exhibit more favorable properties than the traditional plaster models in particular in terms of mechanical resistance and the possibility of obtaining a physical model only when needed, especially for long-term therapy control patient or forensic procedures. The study showed that 3D printing can be an alternative to traditional plaster models, and it is possible for them to make a precise analysis of the dimensions of the dental arches."@en . . "5"^^ .
