"Synthesis and characterization of Fe3O4-Ag nanoparticles"@en . . . "The main aim of this work is to prepare nanoparticles with antibacterial activity. Many kinds of nanometer-sized antibacterial materials such as TiO2, ZnO, MgO, chitosan, copper and silver have been reported. Among them, nanocrystalline silver has been proved to be the most effective antimicrobial agent since silver and its compounds have powerful antimicrobial capability and broad inhibitory biocidal spectra for microbes including bacteria, viruses and eukaryotic microorganism. Silver ions inhibit bacterial growth by inhibiting the essential enzymatic function of the microorganism via interaction with thiol group of L-cystein that cause perturbation of the bacterial respiratory chain. In this work I try to produce relatively monodisperse silver-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4-Ag) by reducing silver nitrate on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles.
