"Electroosmosis is one of the important possibilities for moving liquids in microsystems. It is often used in bio- and analytical chips as a suitable technique of delivery of samples and analytes. Electroosmotic flow (EOF) occurs when following conditions are fulfilled: (i) the walls of a microchannel for EOF contain fixed charge, (ii) the liquid contains charged species (ions) and (iii) electric field parallel to the microchannel is applied. When an experimental device for studies of electroosmosis should be designed, proper combination of material and fabrication technology must be chosen. There exists a number of technologies for fabrication of microstructurized systems. In our lab, some of them are available: mechanical micromachining, hot embossing, casting, photolitography and microlitography. In this work our experiences with fabrication of microsystems from various materials (e.g. PMMA, PS, PDMS) will be mentioned. Suitable techniques for microstructuring of materials will be discussed.
