One of the key problems in knowledge-based control systems design is the development of an architecture able to manage efficiently and synergically different elements of the available process knowledge. In this respect, multi-agent architecture offers a useful tool. The proposed architecture of BIOGENES II is based on a family of cooperating agents around a realtime SQL database. The agents should mainly include both computational agents in Matlab (modelling, predictive control, etc.) and rule-based agents (metabolic state classification, fault detection and diagnosis, etc) in Clips. The chosen architecture should be open enough to enable an easy integration of agents of other types as well."@en . "\u0160trbsk\u00E9 Pleso" .
