The green-grass projects represent no special problems because their designs must respect the contemporary requirements on ecology. However, a much more frequent and complicated situation occurs in case of retrofit of existing process during its lifetime. The more stringent standards imposed later on, cause as a rule incremental costs, which decrease the expected process profitability. The net present value concept can again be adopted from beginning of the process retrofit to the end of process lifetime, respecting also decommission, working capital etc. The first scope of this work is first to list and figure out all items decisive for estimation of ecological costs.
