Lateral flow immunoassay provides advantages in simplicity and rapidity when compared to the conventional instrumental detection methods. This technique can be used for qualitative and/or semiquatitative detection in a fast and easy-to-use manner and should be applied in non-laboratory environments. We described principle of current formats, different markers, e.g. cold, carbon, and latex nanoparticles, as well as possibilities for quantitative monitoring.
