Phenol is a troublesome contaminant in surface waters. Aerobic degradation of phenol by a procaryote Comamonas testosteroni in excess of all nutrients was tested. Experiments were carried out in a bench scale bioreactor (B. Braun, Melsungen, Germany) with a working volume of 1.5 L. The optimum temperature and pH for the experiments were 30 \u00B0C and pH 7.00. Determination of concentration of phenol and catechol was carried out with HPLC analysis. The experiments proved that after addition of nutrients under conditions ofunlimited respiration the cells were able oxidize phenol and keep up a respiratory activity in the same quality.
