"Deposits collected from steam turbines were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Compounds found in turbine deposits are presented and discussed. Results show that some of the compounds originate from inappropriately treated local water source. Some other compounds originate from reactions, where soluble species (Na, K, SiO2, sulfate and chloride) undergo transformation to produce insoluble products such as mixed oxides and silicates. One deposit was identified as risky as it contained 5.7 % of lead. Results show that according to prevailing element turbine deposits can be divided into iron, copper, silicon and salt (carbonate, phosphate, sulfate and chloride) form.
