Bacteria and other dangerous microorganisms are the major water pollutants, which should be removed from water or whose growth should be at least substantially limited. As early as in 1985, Matsunaga et al reported for the first time that bacterial cells in water could be effectively killed by photocatalysis on TiO2. The present work is aimed at the study into the effect of porosity and thickness of thin layers of TiO2 on their photocatalytic efficiency in the destruction of two selected microorganisms, namely the Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria."@en .
