"Operating costs are currently the major limiting factor of the membrane technology. These costs are largely determined by the finance required for cleaning of a membrane surface. Fouling of the membrane surface causes a decrease in the flux ? hydraulic system's performance. A restriction of the membrane fouling appears to be an effective approach in order to reducing of operating costs. This can be achieved using several approaches. Either dosing of new additives ? coagulants, flocculants, etc. or by applications of new or modified materials used for making of membranes instead of the current ones. As a replacement of current membranes can be used non-woven fabrics, meshes and filter cloths. The plasma effect of ammonia and carbon dioxide is used for modification of membrane materials, which significantly improves resistance to the membrane fouling.
