"TGA termogravimetry was used for rapid proximative analysis of fuels from Portugal region such as coals, pellets, sewage sludges and fermented wastes. Water contents, determined at the temperatures of 130 \u00B0C and 105 \u00B0C, showed that TGA is reliable method for well-known fuels under condition that analytical samples are prepared by cold milling and sieving. The exception applies for thermally sensitive and hardly disintegrable fuels, which are preferably determined by reference methods. The TGA compositional analysis, working with a pre-dried analytical sample, showed that with the exception of few difficult fuels, the characteristic values of volatile compounds V, fixed carbon FC and ash content A corresponded well to CSN and ISO standard values. The relative error was less than 10 %. The method offers cost- and time-effective way for proximate analysis and direct determination of fixed carbon (char) content, in comparison to the reference methods, correlating it only indirectly as %FC= 100-(%V+%A).
