Horseradish (Cochlearia Armoracia L), nightshade (Solanum nigrum), and tobacco (Nicotiana tabaccum), were cultured in pots in contaminated soil. The content of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was measured in soil, roots and leaves. In order to establish the effect of fertilizer, half pots were cultivated with fertiliser, even half pots of control group. Plants were harvested after 3 and 6 months. Plants from treated group produced more biomass differing by species from 12 to 41%. Application of fertiliser changes even content of water in the fresh plants. Tobacco plants content more water (by 16%) and nightshades content less water (by 31%) Some plants are not suitable for phytoremediation of PCBs. Non fertilised nightshades lowered concentration PCBs in soil by 1%. Due to fertilisation, that ratio increased to 9%. The difference between tobacco plants was 11%.
