. "Effect of cadmium on two varieties of maize (Zea mays L.), on variety 2023 and its F1 descendant obtained by crossbreeding CE704x2023 was compared in this study. Plants were grown in soil contaminated with cadmium in concentrations 100 and 300 mg Cd/kg soil for 18 days. After harvesting the morphological traits - length and dry weight of root and shoot, length of first and second leaf was evaluated and inhibition compared to the control was determined. Afterwards content of photosynthetic pigments in plants and the rate of bioaccumulation were measured. It was found out, that F1 hybrid reached the higher values of morphological traits, but was more inhibited at 100 mg/kg in comparison to the control than variety 2023. At the concentration 300 mg/kg inhibition of the most of morphological traits in 2023 was higher than in F1. The content of photosynthetic pigments was not inhibited at 100 mg/kg in F1, whereas in 2023 content of pigments decreased rapidly. At 300 mg/kg pigment were in both varieties inh"@en . .
