The compounds of nitrogen are frequently removed by various biological methods, which are very demanding for space and energy consumption. To save them, many researchers study the methods of intensification of these processes. One of possible alternatives is entrapment of microorganisms in polymeric lens-shaped carrier. Compared to the common activated sludge process, entrapment brings some advantages, for example process stability, maintenance of high biomass concentration in the reactors or easy separation of biomass from the treated wastewater.
