The inactivation of Escherichia coli using pure and doped (Ag) TiO2 layers prepared by the sedimentation for the P25 (Degussa) suspension is described. The results show that amount of deposited TiO2 is a crucial parameter. Doping with Ag did not result in an increase in inactivation rate probably due to the shielding effect of deposited Ag particles. It was found that the inactivation rate of the Escherichia coli increases with the amount of deposited TiO2 catalyst. In the case of doped TiO2 layers the effect of TiO2 amount is not so pronounced and also the inactivation rate is about 3-5 times lower. The possible explanation is in the fact that silver is in the layer in the metallic form, which means that the amount of light absorbed by doped layer is lower due to the shielding caused by Ag particles."@en .
