"Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PETP) from disposed beverage bottles was used as a secondary material for the preparation of aromatic-aliphatic copolyesters. Through a solvolysis of PETP by an aqueous solution of L-lactic acid, a mixture of low-molar-mass aromatic-aliphatic esters is formed; the polycondensation (at 250 oC) of this mixture yields copolyesters, biologically degradable uder both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In order to test the anaerobic degradability of the copolyesters, sludge from waste water treatment plant was used as an inoculum. The development of the degradation was monitored as a change of the molecular structure of the copolyesters. Their decomposition through the effect of a mixed culture of microorganisms included in the medium used was accompanied by an intensive release of biogas. The test of the ecotoxicity based on the germinating capacity of the Sinapis alba seeds showed a harmlessness of the degradation products of the copolyester." . . . . . "Prokopov\u00E1, Irena" .
