A special attention is focused on a research on the hydrogen production and the hydrogen utilization. Although most of studies carried out on the biological production of hydrogen in the last twenty years have been focused on the usage of photosynthetic bacteria, nowadays many researches on the hydrogen production via a dark fermentation are published. This process has the advantage that the hydrogen can be produced in a reactor without the light energy requirement, which is the limiting factor of light driven processesUntil now the research was focused on the influence of the specific organic loading rate (SOL), the organic loading rate (OL) and pH on the hydrogen production. Moreover, the kinetic of the hydrogenogenesis was studied. The total hydrogen yield ranged from 3.1 to 6.2 g#kg-1 dry phytomass. The hydrogen content was 80 # 4 % in all cases.
