"Sample of a pre-Variscan granitoid from Sudoměřice near Tábor was burned at 700 °C for 10 hours in a ceramic furnace. The only relevant phase change is the dehydration of clay minerals and Fe-hydroxides, which had been originally present mainly at grain boundaries and also formed aureoles around monazite (due to radiation damage). Corrosion of monazite by the water liberated from low-temperature phases is observed. This partly explains why pre-Variscan monazite ages have been only rarely preserved in Moldanubicum. Hematite formed at heating highlights the grain boundaries and is responsible for pink macroscopic coloration of the rock. Biotite is darker and less homogeneous in the burnt sample, however, its alteration to other phases cannot be proved by microscopic observation. The garnet is often rimmed by relatively wide empty space, which is perhaps a consequence of contraction of the surroundings. The relatively high magnetic susceptibility of the original rock has been enhanced by the bur"@en . "22310" . .
