"The nitric acid dissolution of apatite is a primary technology operation in combined fertilizer production. For the engineering calculations it is necessary to understand the kinetics of dissolving process. The change of apatite grain structure caused bythe chemical reaction has been studied by the mercury porosimetry method (measuring apparatus PoreSizer 9320, Micromeritics, U.S.). The porosity and the pore size distribution were measured for original and partially reacted samples. From the obtained d ata it follows, that the chemical reaction causes the porosity changes during the nitric acid decomposition of apatite. Apart from the external apatite surface reaction the process is also influenced by the reaction inside grains on the pore walls already during the initial reaction stage." .
