"The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) has proven to be a useful tool for phylogenetic studies in many angiosperm families. For this reason we have decided to use ITS regions as molecular markers for the evaluation of phylogenetic relationships in yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius, Poepp. and Endl.). The aim of our work was the optimization of a PCR protocol for the amplification of the region between the DNA coding the large and the small RNA subunit, and the comparison of sequences obtained. Amplicons obtained from three Bolivian yacon landraces were sequenced. Sequences obtained were alligned with ITS region present in the database. The analysed ITS regions of Bolivian yacon genotypes showed differences in the nucleotides 163-164 and 235-236. ITS region has confirmed their potential in the effective yacon genome analyses."@en . .
