"There is an increased interest in yacon crop worldwide for its high potential as a good source of natural sweeteners for sirup production suitable for diabetic patients because of its high content of inulin and fructose in its tuber roots. However, besides the above mentioned qualities another important characteristics of this plant is a high aboveground biomass production with the content of 11-17 % proteins in its dry matter which can be utilized as a high quality source of animal food. Our research had foccussed on yield of above ground parts (leaves and stalks) of four ecotypes of yacon cultivated under the Czech Republic climatic conditions. There were differences registered in yield within the both ecotype as well as among ecotypes for evaluated characteristics. The yield of tuber roots reached 2.4 kg / plant (48.98 t/ha); rhizomes 1.4 kg and the aboveground parts 2.65 kg / plant. Average vegetative period of each ecotape was about 157 days.
