Remote sensing is commonly used for crop classification, for yield forecasts, and also for monitoring post-harvest residues and on-site meteorological conditions. Land cover evaluations are most often performed using data from multispectral optical systems of sufficient spectral resolution. The classification accuracy of vegetation cover is influenced not only by the technical parameters of the sensors but also by the physical and biological characteristics of the vegetation that is scanned, and by the conditions in the locality. In this paper, we summarize studies in the field of agricultural landscapes and their vegetation cover with the use of remote sensing. Methods of vegetation mapping based on the spectral behaviour of plants are discussed, and issues and factors that may affect classification are also dealt with."@en .
