"Landscape fragmentation causes extensive changes both in structures of communities of organism and population dynamics of many species. Edges are accompanying events of landscape fragmentation. The main goal of the study is to compare structure and numbers of small mammals in six habitats (forest interior, forest edge, along forest road, meadow interior, meadow edge, strip habitat) in the P\u00EDseck\u00E9 hory Mts (Southern Bohemia). Furthermore, we investigate if predation rate on experimental nest relate to available of main prey (small mammals) in different habitat types. In the beginning of May 2006 small mammals were captured with snap traps designed in lines in each habitat (35 traps per transect at the distance 5 m). The preliminary results showed that the most individuals were captured within forest edges. Data collecting and following analyses will continue in next year.
