"Microhardness was used for study of wood structure (Norway spruce \u2013 Picea abies L.) in range 0.1 \u2013 100 mm dimensions. The steel indentor 0.25 mm in diameter with flat head was used for this purpose in penetration tests by constant velocity (0.0167 mm.s-1, the maximum depth 0.3 mm). The strength was defined as the mean pressure on the indentor head at 0.02 mm penetration. The set of the tests (~ 320) arranged under a line perpendicular to the annual rings in the radial plane gave an information on the stress variation in dependence to location of the test plane in relation to the understood as a parameter describing the grow wood properties similarly as the density usually used in dendrochronology. The observed strength variation is in agreement with visually observed annual rings. The obtained date made possible to determine the mean characteristic points of the annual ring as well as the development of the parameters in dependence of the weather variations." . .
