These alarming numbers relate to the wild species, however the situation is very similar in domestic species and breeds. To prevent the increase of this list it is necessary to focus on methods for conservation of endangered species on experimental and also on practical level. The sperm cryopreservation is probably one of the most effective and feasible method for genetic resources preservation and for maintaining the genetic variability, but most of the freezing protocols have been developed for individuals with high fertility. However endangered species and breeds have usually poor fertility level. Moreover there is high variability in reproduction and in sperm viability after cryopreservation even in closely related species.
