"This paper deals with the use of sugar beet for biogas production. During the years 2010 \u2013 2011 small plot trials were established at experimental station in \u010Cerven\u00FD \u00DAjezd and the effect of different types varieties of sugar beet on yield and quality parameters was investigated. In the experiment we included two traditional varieties of sugar beet (Esperanza and Caruso) and three new, yet unregistered energetic varieties. Under laboratory conditions on the apparatus OxiTop Control Merck was determined by dry matter of sugar beet yield of biogas and methane (CH4) production. The highest biogas yield (7 166 m3.ha-1) and methane production (3 826 m3.ha-1) reached yet unregistered energetic variety A. This was followed by two traditional varieties \u2013 Esperanza (biogas yield 6 645 m3.ha-1 and methane production 3 764 m3.ha-1) and Caruso (biogas yield 6 605 m3.ha-1, methane production 3 656 m3.ha-1).
