"The separate pre-treatment of reject water from anaerobic sludge digestion by a shortcut nitrification is a promising method, which could bring considerable cost and material savings and more efficient nitrogen removal from wastewater. To achieve shortcut nitrification it is necessary to create specific conditions in order to limit the nitratation activity. It was experimentally proven, that through DO limitation down to 0.7 mg/l led to nitrite accumulation with more than 95 % of total oxidized nitrogen. The low DO level in the same time caused decrease of nitrogen removal efficiency from 99 % to 60\u201370 %. After DO level increase up to 3 mg/l the system carried on with shortcut nitrification with 95 % nitrogen removal efficiency with nitrogen load 1\u20131.5 kg/(m3 day) for another 90 days.
