"Ammonia and nitrite (especially un-ionized forms NH3 \u2013 free ammonia, FA and HNO2 \u2013 free nitrous acid, FNA) cause in some cases inhibition of nitrification process. This fact complicates nitrification process of specific waste water with high content of ammonia. The inhibition influence of FA and FNA is widely discussed in literature. The inhibition limits declared in literature are in many cases applicable only to non adapted biomass. Therefore it was performed laboratory test studying the influence of ammonia and nitrite on the nitrification process during the operation of reactor with continual flow. The test was performed with reject water. The experiments proved that in some cases it is possible to nitrify ammonia in waste water with high content of ammonia to nitrate at ammonia and nitrite concentrations significantly higher than the inhibition limits declared in the literature."@en . . . .
