The samples collected in the area in 1999-2009 contained 88 additional described dolichopodid species, 19 of them are recorded from Slovakia for the first time. The updated Slovak species list thus contains 236 dolichopodid species. Furthermore, seven of these species are considered vulnerable in the Czech Republic (Olejníček 2005), and Medetera penicillata represents a Southeastern Palaearctic faunal element, thus far only recorded from southeastern Siberia (Russia), and Japan. Finally, the Poľana dolichopodid collection contained one female specimen of Setihercostomus, a genus recorded for the first time in Europe, and 2 Medetera species, which are most likely new to science and will be described in a separate paper.
