"Shepherd\u2019s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) can emerge especially from low depths near the soil surface. We observed two main waves of emergence under field conditions. The highest emergence rate was recorded in spring (April, May). Subsequently, the emergence decreased. There was nearly no emergence during June and July. Next important wave of emergence appeared in August and September. During late autumn, winter and early spring the weed emerge only when there is available proper soil temperature for germination. Soil cultivation can caused new wave of emergence due to seed exposure to the conditions needed for germination (solar radiation, carbon dioxide content, etc.). Shepherd\u2019s purse is very sensitive to many herbicides commonly used in cropping systems. In sugar beet stands, many herbicides or their combinations can control this weed.
