The sludge liquor, which is commonly returned to activated sludge process, brings high amount of ammonia there. This fact can emphasize the problems of biological nitrogen removal in WWTP. The nitritation/denitritation method represents one of the possibilities for ammonia removal from the sludge liquor. The nitritation/denitritation method was used in laboratory scale and the ammonia removal efficiency at the optimal condition was higher than 90 %.
