In the present study we investigated the role of NO-dependent events in meiotic maturation in pig oocytes. Nitric oxide is involved in a wide range of functions: It determines vasodilation, inhibits platelet aggregation, control apoptosis and acts as a neurotransmiter. It has been suggested that NO-NOS has important physiological roles in a variety of reproductive processses such as follicular development, ovulation and spematogenesis. The synthesis of NO is catylyzed by three distinct isoforms of NOS: neuronal (nNOS), endotelial NO (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS). Of the three NOS isoenzymes, ovaries express eNOS and iNOS but not nNOS. Cumulus-oocytes complexes (COC) collected from porcine ovaries were examined with an inverted microscope and classifield as being at the following stages: oocytes at other stages of meiosis and atypical oocytes with degenerative changes or atypical morphology. the add"@cs .
