"The Holarctic species Sepsis luteipes is known in Europe from the following countries: Germany (MEIER 1999 as S. helvetica), Switzerland (MUNARI 1985, type locality of S. helvetica), Russia, Finland, Great Britain (OZEROV 1999) and Czech Republic (present records). DUDA (1926) proposed it as a tentative synonym of S. ciliforceps Duda, 1926. (= S. violacea Meigen, 1826). In HENNIG (1949), S. luteipes is given as a synonym of S. violacea. ZUSKA & PONT (1984) considered it to be a junior synonym of S. flavimana Meigen, 1826. MUNARI (1985) described, illustrated and keyed S. helvetica as new species, however, OZEROV (1999) synonymised it with S. luteipes based on his studies of North Americal types of S. luteipes deposited in Smithsonian Institution, Washington (OZEROV 1998).
