"The system approach to the knowledge life cycle is a core of the successful development of managerial competency models. This paper starts with a delineation of the basic terms, followed by a description of the relations between competencies development and individual knowledge creation in the learning process. The systems approach and the Socialisation, Externalisation, Combination and Internationalisation (SECI) model is used to analyse this relation. Later in the paper, some of the latest trends in developing competency models are analysed. When choosing the right methods, we need to consider a large number of complex factors. Thus, evaluating the strategies for developing competency models is a kind of Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem. Using a classical MCDM method is very risky because of its independence assumption and so, a new method called the Analytic Network Process (ANP) has been derived.
