"Seminar lead by Miroslav Kratky University of National Defence Brno, Czech Republic With many nations now familiarised with the “conventional” threats facing their national air space, attention is now shifting towards more specialised and niche areas of air defence. Amongst the range of challenges within this field, the threat from Unmanned Air Systems is arguably the most pressing – especially given the current trend of weaponizing smaller platforms and the continued development of specially designed UCAVs. Furthermore, as this technology becomes cheaper and more readily available to a wider array of nations, the risk of abuse grows exponentially. Acknowledging the growing threat from unmanned systems to both military installations and densely populated areas, now is the time to assess key technical developments and procedures for successfully identifying and intercepting these slow, loitering threats. This dedicated workshop will explore and examine the following points: UAV detection – sensors and algorithms UAV destruction – lethal and non-lethal destruction, jamming and hacking Technical parameters of UAV – payload, velocity, coverage and outreach Defence systems and their structure – design, communication with sensor systems and radars, commanding the weapon systems. usage of current systems and areas for development UAVs’ use – terrorism, usage scenarios and impact on civilian structures Attendees will leave the session with a thorough understanding of the threat posed by unmanned systems, along with current and future technologies for early detection and interception."@en .
