"Plasma nitriding technology and its ability to change the chemical composition of given material is a method aimed at increase of resistance of material against development of the fatigue process. Nitriding atmosphere consists of a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen. The diffusion process optimally takes place at temperatures ranging from 480 \u00B0C to 560 \u00B0C. Temperature, chemical composition of the steel, the surface quality and the physical parameters of the process, such as stress, process duration, pulse duration and pressure of the mixture influence the parameters of the nitrided layer. The nitrided layer is composed of a white layer and of a diffusion layer with the transition into the basic material. The increase of fatigue limit depends on the white layer heterogenity. Homogeneous white layer formed by the \u03B5 nitride \u03B5 is the most advantageous for increasing the fatigue limit, but its achievement is technologically highly demanding. The aim of the experiment was to verify the possibility of a combination of thermo-chemical (plasma nitriding) and heat treatment with focus on creation of a homogeneous surface layer on the steel grade \u010CSN 412061 and on increase of the fatigue strength and service life values than it is possible to achieve by plasma nitriding. Evaluation of experiments was realized by measurement of the concentration profiles of nitrogen and carbon, by assessment of the evolution of microhardness, as well as by metallographic evaluation and measurement of high-cycle fatigue."@en . .
