"2" . "IntroductionThe gastrointestinal tract (GIT) plays an important role in the general inflammatory response of the organism. The GIT hypoxia represents one of the triggering causes of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and following pathological changes. Gastric tonometry is one of the diagnostic methods possibly used in clinical condition and informing us of GIT perfussion. Material and methodsGastric and sigmoidal tonometry levels (pHi) were folloved during increased intraabdominal pressure(35 cm of water), achieved by saline solution instillation. The same values were checked after the abdominal cavity decompression.ResultsDuring the intraabdominal hypertension a marked fall of pHi was seen soon as after 15 minutes. The mean pHi values within the three hours interval reached 7,197 # 0,006 (p < 0,005) in stomach, and 7,119 # 0,009 (p < 0,001) in sigmoid, results being in pathological ranges.
