"All principal types of aquatic environment of the Novohradské hory Mountains are briefly described and characterized. Besides numerous examples of characteristic biota (lower and higher plants, invertebrates and vertebrates) cited here, crenal, rhithral and potamal zones within lotic habitats are described with respect to elevation, slope, stream order and morphology, current velocity, conductivity, principal data on water chemistry, sedimentation, pollution and water quality as well as protection measurements. Lenitic habitats are treated in a similar way. Special attention is paid to so called “clasuras“, a special artificial impoundments built in the 18th century originally to facilitate transport of logs from forest places at higher elevation that recently represent an important and valuable habitats and refugial places of numerous endangered and relict organisms."@en .
