The aim of this study was to verify the toxicity of nitrite for fish. In this study there were used tests of acute toxicity tested on Poecilia reticulata and laboratory experiments carried out on Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Influence of nitrite on blood methemoglobin content was evaluated during laboratory experiments with Nile tilapia.The 96hLC50 values of NaNO2 for Poecilia reticulata range between 39 - 436 mg.l-1 depending on chloride concentrations (10 - 190 mg.l-1) and the relationship between these values is linear.
