"The goal of this methodology is to describe isolation, cryopreservation and potential usage of spermatogonial and oogonial stem germ cells of sturgeons for the purpose of National Programme on Conservation and Utilization of Genetic Resources. Spermatogonia or oogonia are taken out by biopsy and then dissociated by enzymes, sorted in concentration gradient of Percoll(R) and cryopreserved under specific conditions. The thawed cells can be transplanted either into the same or another more common sturgeon species (e.g. sterlet Acipenser ruthenus), via which the donor gametes can be produced.
