Reproduction performance was assessed in 21 litters. Total number of piglets born was 11.3, number of piglets born alive was 9.9, number of weaned piglets was 9.2, lactation performance was 64.1 kg and farrowing interval was 165.8 days. The reproduction performance of this herd is on a good level. Slaughter analyses were made in 81 PBP pigs and 282 hybrid pigs. Meat quality was evaluated in 81 PBP pigs and 120 hybrid pigs. The PBP pigs had carcass weight 86.52 kg, lean meat content 48.81% and average backfat thickness 40.23 mm. Hybrid pigs were characterized by carcass weight 90.91 kg, lean meat content 56.05% and average backfat thickness 24.54 mm. The PBP breed was characterized by markedly lower meatness and markedly higher backfat thickness in comparison to the hybrid combinations. The meat obtained from PBP was characterized by pH45 6.66, pH24 5.51, meat colour L* 52.93, drip loss 2.38%, intramuscular fat content 2.73% and tenderness (raw meat) 1.52 kg. Hybrid pigs were evaluated by pH45 6.29, pH24 5.55, colour L* 52.53, drip loss 2.53%, intramuscular fat content 1.52% and tenderness (raw meat) 3.63 kg. The meat from PBP had higher pH45, higher intramuscular fat content and markedly better tenderness in comparison to meat from hybrids. These characteristics indicate good meat quality."@en . . . . .
