"In this study we observed the effect of forage mineral composition from intensively-managed herbage on the acid-base balance and calcium metabolism during the prepartal period in high-yielding dairy cows. The roughage showed high calcium ( 10,2 g.kg-1 of dry matter) and potassium ( 27.3 g.kg-1 of dry matter) content. Using of these feedstuff in prepartal cows led to the strong organism alkalosis, reduced Ca content in the urine after calving and occurence of parturient paresis in 20% of calved cows. Unfavourable effect of Ca surplus in the diet was managed to eliminate by the anionic salts addition. The animals fed this mineral supplement showed higher urine Ca content after calving and there were found no Ca metabolic disorders in these cows. Using of this mineral supplement appears to be limited by the potassium content in the feeding rate."@en . . . . .
