"The Czech scientist, philosopher, sociologist, teacher, critic, politician and journalist T. G. Masaryk, who undoubtedly belongs to the most important personalities of Czech history, was very interested in religious questions and therefore it would be surprising and illogical if he were not enthusiastic about the newly-established Catholic Modernism. Although T. G. Masaryk and the representative of the Catholic Modernism K. Dost\u00E1l-Lutinov were both pious and deeply religious persons, professed Jesus Christ, responsively experienced their personal belief and drew hope, confidence and courage from Christianity, both parties did not have a lot in common. Even though the first phase (until 1899) revealed much common ground, in reality the parties were more separated than connected. T. G. Masaryk perceived Catholic Modernism as a movement making only particular, small and moderate changes which did not actually differ too much from the Catholic Church and as such he rejected it. T. G. Masaryk differed from catholic modernists on a few levels: moral, philosophical, political, theological and historical. The Czech countries have definitely lost an interesting and possibly productive cooperation."@en .
