"28" . . "The effects of cutting conditions on surface integrity during high speed machining (HSM) of hard and tough steels are questioned in this paper. It includes an experi-mental research work concerning with this topic. The aim of the research project described here was to characteize the surface and the near surface layers of high speed milled tool steel (roughness and residual stresses) and to establish relations between the resulting surface integrity and the effect on it. Roughness as well as residual stresses depends on applied cutting conditions (tool type, cutting speed, feed…). For each integrity feature was compared two cutting tools. Residual stresses in the heat-treated tool steel after final phase of the HSC process are presented. They are measured using incremental hole drilling method.
