Next, an attention is devoted to the enhanced hardness. It is shown that the hardness of the nanocomposite film can be more than two times higher than the hardness of its hardest component, there are two groups of hard and superhard nanocomposites: nc-MeN/hard hard phase and nc-MeN/soft phase, H correlates well with the film structure and there are four possible origins of the enhanced hardness: dislocation-dominated plastic deformation, cohesive forces between atoms, nanostructure of materials and macrostress generated by ion bombardment." .
