An intention of the submitted contribution is to point to a new approach to the system theory that could contribute to build up the foundation much more precisely. A presented approach to system theory is based on a new system conception taking into account not only behaviour equations of the system, but also directionality of causation between system variables. As the conception is immediately applicable to discrete-time systems only a continualization procedure, extending the approach to continuous-time systems, is outlined. It is believed that the proposed approach can offer a deeper insight into the system theory and can significantly contribute to control theory building.
