"The paper describes the initial calculations with the computational code UWB1, which is being developed as a fast computer code for the study of burnable absorbers at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen in the project CANUT. Burnable absorbers compensate for the initial excess reactivity of nuclear fuel, possible to reduce the power peaking in the fuel assemblies and then extend fuel cycles with a higher fuel enrichment. Modern computer codes for nuclear fuel depletion require high computational time and parametric calculations is therefore the need for high performance computing. The main purpose of the UWB1 fast code is calculation of fuel depletion, which is achieved by the approximations in the equations describing fuel depletion."@en . .
