"This paper presents the basic properties of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) whose advantages for use in traction drives are analyzed. The main attention is paid to eligible control strategies of a traction drive with IPMSM where the vector of stator current is optimized in order to achieve maximum drive efficiency. The optimization is established mainly based on utilization of reluctance torque component. The theoretical results and proposed drive control are confirmed by simulations.
