"The paper deals with numerical computation of the attractive force and temperature rise of a cylindrical electromagnet, whose shell and core are manufactured from non-linear iron and whose field coil is supplied from a DC source. The task is to find such field current that assures the maximum attractive force while the temperature rise of the electromagnet does not exceed the given value.First a mathematical model of the task is built up that is formulated as a weakly coupled electromagnetic-thermalproblem. Then an algorithm of solution is suggested and realised by professional program QuickField. The theoretical considerations and mathematical analysis are supplemented by an illustrative example. Discussion of its results demonstrates the possibilities of the presented methodology and evaluates its eventual improvements consisting in the quasi or hard coupled formulation of the problem."@en .
