Using heating equipment a hollow steel starting half-finished product is heated to a temperature of austenite of material from which the half-finished product is manufactured. Further, a forming machine works the half-finished product by deformation during the forming process to a final shape of a hollow body. Immediately thereafter, the hollow body of the final shape is cooled in cooling equipment such that material of the original austenite structure, being refined during the forming process by deformation, is cooled to a temperature causing incomplete transformation of austenite to martensite. Immediately thereafter, stabilization of the residual austenite is carried out in a tempering device by diffusion redistribution of carbon in the material from which the hollow body is manufactured.
